Privacy

This site sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and runs no third-party analytics or advertising scripts. Every page is a static file. Fonts are served from this domain rather than a font provider, so loading a page does not tell anyone else that you were here. It does run one measurement script of its own, described below, which sends to this domain and nowhere else.

Measurement

So we can tell which pages are worth keeping and improving, this site records how pages are used. The script is ours and is served from this domain: it is not Google Analytics or any other third-party product, and no advertising network, data broker or analytics company receives anything.

A record contains the address of the page you are on, including anything after the ? in it — on this site that is a company reference on the claim form, or a campaign tag you arrived with; the address of the page that linked you here, as your browser reports it; your country, region and city as your network reports them to our hosting provider; your device type, browser and operating system as broad categories; how long the page was actually visible; how far you scrolled; whether you clicked through to an installer’s website, phone number or email address; and, if you use the search box, what you typed into it — set out in full below, because it is the only thing here made of your own words.

Your IP address is not stored. It is used once, on our server, to compute a short one-way code so that forty page views can be told apart from one person reading forty pages. That code mixes in a secret that changes every midnight, so the same person is a different code tomorrow and no history can be assembled about anyone across days. It is never sent back to your browser and nothing on the page can read it. Nothing is written to your device: still no cookie, no local storage, no session storage.

If you would rather not be measured, you already are not. The script checks for Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control before it does anything, and our server discards the request as well if either signal arrives. Content blockers stop it outright, and the site works identically either way.

The search box still runs entirely in your browser. When you first click it, your browser downloads one file listing the companies and towns on this site, and every keystroke after that is matched locally. There is no search server, and the file never leaves your browser once it has been downloaded.

What you type in the search box is recorded, and this changed on 10 September 2026. Until that date it was not, and this page said so in stronger terms than that. We changed it because the searches that come back empty are the only direct evidence of which installers and which towns are missing from the site, and we had no way to see them. A record contains the words you typed, how many companies and towns they matched, how many were shown, which box you used, and what our matcher made of the words — whether it had to forgive a spelling, whether it could only match part of what you asked for, and whether you described the whole site rather than a place.

It rides on the same measurement record as everything above, which means it carries the same short one-way code and nothing else. There is no name, no email address, no account and no IP address against it, and the code is a different one tomorrow. We keep it to decide what to add next; we cannot use it to work out who typed it, and neither could anyone who obtained the data. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control stop this exactly as they stop everything else on this page.

Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses, for a short period. We do not use them to build a profile of you.

If you email us, we keep the email so we can reply. Nothing else.

If you claim a listing

Claiming is the only part of this site where you tell us who you are, and the only place anything is kept that could identify a person. If you submit a claim we store what you send: your name, your role, your email address, your phone number if you give one, your message, and your proof file. Your IP address is not stored. It is turned into a one-way code on our server — the address itself is discarded — so that an abusive script can be told apart from an owner without keeping anywhere you have been. Your browser’s user-agent string is kept alongside it for the same reason.

It is stored in a private database and file store that are not reachable from the web: there is no public URL for your proof or your details, and the reviewer reads the file through a signed, single-purpose link. None of it is ever published on the site, and we do not sell, share or market to any of it. Three service providers necessarily process it on our behalf — Vercel, which hosts the site; Supabase, which holds the database and the file store; and Postmark, which delivers the emails about your claim. Nobody else sees it.

We use it for two things: deciding your claim, and — if it is approved — knowing that you are the person entitled to edit that listing. Your proof file is deleted twelve months after a decision, always. A claim we declined is deleted entirely at the same point. An approved claim keeps its record after its proof is deleted, because that record is what your sign-in is checked against: deleting it would lock you out of your own listing a year after we invited you in. A claim we have not yet decided is kept until we decide it, because deleting it on a timer would throw away evidence somebody is still waiting on us to read. You can have any of it deleted at any time — email us with the reference number from your confirmation and it goes, along with the proof and your sign-in.

If you sign in to edit your listing

An approved claim comes with a password for your listing. We never store that password. What is stored is a scrypt hash of it, which is a one-way scramble: it can check a password you type and it cannot be turned back into one. When you sign in we store a random token for the session — again only as a one-way code, so what is in your browser and what is in our database are not the same value — alongside your browser’s user-agent string and the same one-way code for your IP address that the claim form makes. The address itself is not kept. A session is deleted once it expires or you sign out.

What you type into the edit form is different from everything else on this page: it is meant to be published. Your phone number, website, address, opening hours, description, services, service area, trading-since year and any photos you upload appear on your own company page, attributed to you, at the next daily refresh. We strip the location and camera details a phone hides inside a photo before it is published, so a picture taken at a job does not carry that job’s address with it. Your name, your email address and your claim reference are never published there. We also keep a record of each change you make — which listing, when, what it was changed to, your email address and the one-way code for your IP — so that a change can be accounted for later. That record is deleted after twelve months; what you published stays published until you change it.
