Its one and two star share is 12 points above the typical installer in California. Across California, 368 of the 1,529 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 8 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Modern solar is a joke, and if you receive a call from them. Just ask questions, they most likely can't answer them, and are you going to be scammed. I'm just trying to save people from a company that harasses you for a sale. Jacob Muller has to be a bad person, imo, since he couldn't give me his actual number. I'm just worning hardworking people who dont need to be taken advantage of. Thanks, Modern Solar.

I contacted Modern Solar about servicing a system that I had installed by one of the big companies that is now out of business. Moe made time to come out same day and look at it with me. He looked it over and made recommendations and refused any pay. Super nice guy. I will bring him my business in the future. It’s nice to feel the care of a local company.

Edmund is a lifesaver! Needed help with a solar project and they were responsive, helpful, friendly...I've already recommended them to 2 other locals interested in solar.

Not enough good things to say about Edmund, Moe, David and all the modern solar team. The best dealers for off grid systems.

What reviewers keep mentioning

Topics Google derives from the review text, with how often each appears. A frequent topic is not a good one: “price” turns up in praise and in complaints alike.

Elsewhere

  • Google also lists this company under electrical and roofing. A company that does both roofing and solar can handle the roof work a panel install often needs.
  • It is also reviewed on GuildQuality and Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.

Ordered by how much we can tell you about each, which is not an order of quality. We do not know which of these is better and would not say if we did.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We found nothing on a website for this company that states a warranty, a licence or how long it has traded.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
