Its one and two star share is level with the typical installer in Palm Desert. Across California, 788 of the 1,529 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 16 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Every company we hold in Palm Desert, on one axis

0% rated 1–2★75%

Each mark is one company we hold in Palm Desert whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. POWER UPGRADE SOLAR is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

If you’re considering solar in the desert, I can’t recommend James Kunz highly enough. After speaking with several solar companies, a neighbor recommended James and he immediately stood out because of his knowledge, honesty, and no-pressure approach. What really sets him apart is that he isn’t tied to one solar company and forced to sell a single product. Instead, he acts as a broker and takes the time to find the best solar company and system for your specific needs, goals, and budget. James truly knows the solar industry inside and out. He carefully explained all of our options, answered eve

I have purchased solar power systems from Power Upgrade Solar for 2 of my homes. The first being my home in Palm Springs California and later for my home in Cathedral City. I’m happy to say I have not paid Edison a penny for my electricity since the day the systems went active. I have since recommended them to friends who have also purchased systems from them. I and they couldn’t be happier with the service and performance of the systems.

James is the best! The process was really smooth. He was always available and ready to answer any questions we had. The solar install was done without any issues and looks great!

Topics Google derives from the review text, with how often each appears. A frequent topic is not a good one: “price” turns up in praise and in complaints alike.

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Financing

“tax credits and rebates. We help find financing options to minimize upfront costs and monthly…”

  • Years in business

“time–of-use rates. Grids are over 100 years old. Systems are already stressed.”

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on the Better Business Bureau and Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on Instagram and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

Ordered by how much we can tell you about each, which is not an order of quality. We do not know which of these is better and would not say if we did.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
