Its one and two star share is 4 points above the typical installer in Philadelphia. Across Pennsylvania, 44 of the 146 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 132 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in Philadelphia whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Solar States is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

I was trying to have my business run on renewables, a small music practice space. It was all yeah no problems until I paid the deposit. I tried to make it work but ultimately the roof they wanted to put it on which was not the roof I originally suggested had some issues that I didn’t have money to fix. Poor planning on my part, too hopeful, I’m not happy but it was partly my fault so I eat the deposit rather than waste more money. The real annoying part is they kept billing me a balance, I thought it was a mistake. They never sent anything itemized prior so I had to ask for one. It was bloated

Do not invite this company to your neighborhood. Their drivers blow through stop signs while children are standing in the crosswalk. They are dangerous nuisance to the neighborhood when they’ve been invited in to install solar. They are unsafe to the neighborhood and community. I called to communicate and speak with someone in charge about how this issue could be resolved in the customer service representative hung up the phone. I don’t take writing a one Stehr Google business review lately. But this is a company I would never do business with based on their poor customer service and they’re i

We have had a generally poor experience with Solar States. We waited over a year from our contract signing date to finally getting the project under way, and the communication has been quite poor and/or ineffective throughout. We were left in the dark for months at the time as to what the extensive delay was due to, when in the background there was a key decision point that we were not made aware of, and the company just went ahead with their decision (taking on a long, drawn out fight with Peco that we would have declined to do). If we had known about this, we would have decided half a year a

Great, local company who make the process easy. Lina was very communicative the whole time and nice to work with. The installation team was respectful, only took a day, and left no mess behind. They even came back when I noted that part of our wall was not patched after they did some work near the panel. Solar States doesn't try to oversell you and is willing to work with you and your needs. Highly recommend!

Dave was our initial contact and helped to get things rolling, very punctual and responsive to questions and excellent follow up to ensure things were going smoothly. Tigra then picked up to be sure inspections and install date were timely. There were some unforeseen delays but no fault of the company. Then Katrell and the crew did the install. Katrell stood out for his critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve to make decisions that ensured an excellent end result. I would highly recommend this company and I appreciate the culture of professionalism and education that Micah brings

We are really happy with everything, from our initial conversations with Zach through installation and operation. Very smooth process, everyone was very professional, and everything went exactly as Zach described it, with one exception—it all happened faster than predicted! Thanks to everyone involved.

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

Its website also mentions established and licence number, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

    Elsewhere

    • It is also reviewed on Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
    • It posts on X, Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

    What we don't know

    • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
    • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
    • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
