Its one and two star share is 3 points below the typical installer in the Virginia Beach area. Across Virginia, 56 of the 118 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 54 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Ordered by the share of one and two star reviews, weighted by how many reviews stand behind it. It ranks review records, not workmanship.

Every company we hold in the Virginia Beach area, on one axis

0% rated 1–2★35%

Each mark is one company we hold in the Virginia Beach area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Gladius Solar is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

My wife and I had been considering solar for a few years, but didn't know where to start. I was introduced to Sam and he happened to mention what he did for a living and within a few months we have the panels installed and producing our own power. The process was incredibly smooth and I would recommend Gladius to anyone.

While solar isn't saving us as much as we'd hoped, we think it's because our ac ducts have holes in them. Gladius did a great job installing the system and communicating with us during and after.

I have had my panels for a year. Sam Townsend and Andrew did the darn thing. They were patient, informative and professional. They were never off putting (I had so many question). Gladius is the Solar company that stands on everything they promise and advertise. Yes, I will recommend you guys to anyone wanting Solar Panels. Awesome job Sam, Andrew and the entire Gladius team.

Topics Google derives from the review text, with how often each appears. A frequent topic is not a good one: “price” turns up in praise and in complaints alike.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.

Ordered by how much we can tell you about each, which is not an order of quality. We do not know which of these is better and would not say if we did.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We found nothing on a website for this company that states a warranty, a licence or how long it has traded.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
