Its one and two star share is 1 point below the typical installer in the Philadelphia area. Across Pennsylvania, 72 of the 146 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 30 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in the Philadelphia area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Pennstar Solar LLC is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

What reviewers said

Pennstar made learning about and selecting the right solar installation for my house very easy. They were accommodating to all our requests and helpful in answering all of our questions and concerns. They are a very knowledgeable organization that was also extremely friendly throughout the installation process - which only took a few days. Their estimates of solar consumption were spot on. Even with a heat pump and an EV, I am now producing enough electricity to cover all my needs.

Mike made the whole process of sizing and installing solar easy. The quotes provided were clear and concise, and Mike was very accommodating when I requested additional quotes to include battery backup. The installation process went very smoothly, and his crew did an excellent job. Mike and his team ensured that all permits were secured, PECO authorization to operate was obtained, and follow-up inspections were performed in a timely manner. My house is now running on solar, and I have the peace of mind of self-sufficiency during grid outages. If you're interested in solar, I would highly recom

From start to finish Mike was great. He clearly takes pride in the work and knows his stuff. No pressure sales, no BS like other solar sales operations. I wish I had found him years ago. Clean install with no hassles and attention to detail. 10/10

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Financing

“1. We'll walk you through all financing options during your free consultation to find…”

  • Established

“and battery systems across Montco since 2013, and we know the area's…”

  • Years in business

“looking at even stronger returns. Over 25 years, total savings often exceed…”

Its website also mentions warranty, free estimate and 24/7 availability, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on Angi, the Better Business Bureau and Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

Ordered by how much we can tell you about each, which is not an order of quality. We do not know which of these is better and would not say if we did.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
