Its one and two star share is 6 points above the typical installer in the Wichita area. Across Kansas, 9 of the 40 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 36 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in the Wichita area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Pro Terra Solar is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience with ProTerra Solar. From start to finish, this project was mishandled and misrepresented. First, the timeline was completely misleading. I was told the project would take 4–8 weeks, and that once everything was ready, the installation itself would be finished within 3–4 days. Instead, it dragged on for over 3 weeks just to complete the install. To make matters worse, when my breaker boxes were upgraded, they were left completely unlabeled. Instead of doing a basic professional step like labeling them, I was told to “figure it out over time.” Fina

If there was an option for zero stars I’d give that! They are a terrible company to work with! Once they get your money the customer service stops and they no longer care about you! I had to have my solar panels removed from my roof so it could be replaced and because they under bid the job with my insurance they are screwing me by delaying my reinstall. I asked the owner why and he said it was because of scheduling. They only scheduled my install for one day when they knew it should have been two and now I’ve had to wait two weeks past the original install date. He said he was doing me a favo

Lies, all lies. The solar does not work. You pay for panels for nothing. So, you now have your regular electric bill, plus a lean on your home for solar that does now work. DO NOT BUY!!!!

Solar tax credits were explained to me completely wrong. Install and everything else was fairly straightforward

We were very satisfied with the service that Rebekah and the team gave up. Communication was top tier. The process has taken a little longer to complete but we had some complex situations that had to be taken care of. The install looks very good and doesn’t stand out as one would expect.

There was some confusion about the exact placement of one battery unit, but the supervisor discussed options with us calmly and adjusted the layout without arguing. I appreciated that flexibility. The final setup looks neat, organized, and doesn’t take up as much storage space as expected.

The system is performing “as advertised” and we’re very happy with it. While installation did have its hiccups along the way, construction never goes as planned and we were always kept informed, never in limbo as to what was happening or why. I encourage going to solar to everyone, to serve our future energy needs without endangering our planet, and very much recommend Pro Terra as one of the vehicles to that end. It was as painless a process as you could expect for a project of this size and importance.

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Established

“has been in the construction industry since 1995. He started his own construction…”
  • Insured

“is fully certified, licensed and insured to install the solar products we…”
  • Licensed

“. Pro Terra Solar is fully certified, licensed and insured to install the solar…”

Its website also mentions warranty, years in business and better business bureau, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on the Better Business Bureau. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
