Its one and two star share is 15 points above the typical installer in the Bangor area. Across Maine, 8 of the 43 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 69 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Every company we hold in the Bangor area, on one axis

0% rated 1–2★65%

Each mark is one company we hold in the Bangor area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Sundog Solar is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

Review reflects customer service, communication, and proposal/ contract for solar installation. At the time, I was sold on price, availability, and warranty. Now, I would choose any other solar company.

Sundog Solar misrepresented the capabilities of the Daikin heat pump system they sold and installed for us. We were promised a system capable of serving as our primary heating source in Maine winters, with the flexibility to add a third indoor unit later. Instead, we got a 24k BTU system that maxes out with two heads, struggles in the cold, and was falsely advertised as higher-capacity in their own proposal. When we raised concerns, they claimed it was a “typo” and refused to take accountability. Complaints have been filed with the AG, BBB, FTC, and Daikin. I strongly recommend others look els

Fantastic job installing a solar system on my roof. They stand behind their work, recently performing a repair which was covered by warranty.

Sundog Solar was a great choice for our installing solar panels on our home. The staff and crew were all very efficient, friendly, and experts at what they were doing. We felt heard from start to finish on this project. Highly recommend!

We are delighted with our two new heat pumps installed by Jon from Sundog Solar. He was very efficient and knowledgable about the pumps. Jon was also very friendly and answered all of our questions. Not only was Jon friendly, but the whole staff was very accommodating and friendly as they served our needs, through the whole process. Wonderful group of people!

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Licensed

    “NABCEP-certified installers and licensed electricians—will assess your…”

Its website also mentions free estimate and 24/7 availability, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

Elsewhere

  • Google also lists this company under heating and cooling and roofing. A company that does both roofing and solar can handle the roof work a panel install often needs.
  • It is also reviewed on the Better Business Bureau. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
