Its one and two star share is level with the typical installer in the Indianapolis area. Across Indiana, 32 of the 75 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 58 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Ordered by the share of one and two star reviews, weighted by how many reviews stand behind it. It ranks review records, not workmanship.

Every company we hold in the Indianapolis area, on one axis

0% rated 1–2★65%

Each mark is one company we hold in the Indianapolis area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Whole Sun Solar is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

Update: I had a frustrating experience getting a call back from someone for a service call, but once I got a call back, they were helpful troubleshooting and resolving my issue.

Whole Sun Solars staff were just good people. Very knowledgable, courteous and professional. The cost came in about 10k cheaper than I was quoted from other companies and they have comparable warranties for the equipment. The process with our utility company was a little confusing. But Whole Sun Solar spearheaded those conversations; we simply had to read and sign agreements. Overall experience with Whole Sun was great.

I was first associated with these guys about 10 years ago when they installed my solar panels I’ve had them out once since then to have panels removed so that we could do some repair work on the house. Couldn’t ask for anything better, they did a great job. Call them when you’re ready for professional work. Now I have them coming to check my panels and to clean them. It’s good to have the best doing the work!

After a few bumps, was able to get a good contract. Installers were OUTSTANDING, working late through rain, mud and lightning to get the job done! Went smoothly after install to train on new monitoring app.

Topics Google derives from the review text, with how often each appears. A frequent topic is not a good one: “price” turns up in praise and in complaints alike.

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

Its website also mentions free estimate and established, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

    Elsewhere

    • It is also reviewed on Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
    • It posts on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

Ordered by how much we can tell you about each, which is not an order of quality. We do not know which of these is better and would not say if we did.

    What we don't know

    • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
    • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
    • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
