Its one and two star share is 5 points below the typical installer in Honolulu. Across Hawaii, 52 of the 87 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 335 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Every company we hold in Honolulu, on one axis

0% rated 1–2★50%

Each mark is one company we hold in Honolulu whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Independent Energy Hawaii is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!! The worst customer service experience EVER! DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY, YOU WILL END UP WASTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY. THE PEOPLE THAT WORKS THERE HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF SOLAR, COMMON SENSES AND THEY WILL DO THINGS THEIR WAY WITHOUT CONSULTING YOU AS THE CUSTOMER. THEY WASTED MY TIME AND GAVE ME FALSE PROMISES TO PROVIDE ME THE BEST EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES. I URGE YOU TO HIGHLY FIND ANOTHER SOLAR COMPANY TO PROVIDE YOUR NEED. STAY AWAY FROM "INDEPENDENT ENERGY HAWAII". THIS IS ONE EXPERIENCE I WILL REGRETFULLY LEARN FROM AND I WILL NEVER FORGET.

You may not want to go with Independent Energy Hawai'i if you want to install PV Panels by the end of this year of 2025 as they are not able accommodate it. Do not waste your time. They schedule an appointment and paperwork and then later on will informed you that 50/50 chance that it may not be installed to qualify for the incentives

Dave and Tracy did our Tesla car charger install - trenching, mounting and electrical in one day. A few tweaks to the plan on the day of, happy that everyone was flexible and willing to bounce ideas around. We previously used Independent Energy for our solar so this was a no brainer. Permit process took longer than expected since we are in a flood zone - no fault to them, they were diligent throughout (gotta love DPP!) Happy to be charging our EV at home for free! Thanks team!

Daryl, Soren, Samir, Angel, Max, Yuto, Will, and Pranty from Independent Energy did an amazing job installing solar panels and batteries on our home. They were friendly and professional, making sure to check in with us at the beginning and ending of each day, keeping us informed of the progress made. They were polite and worked quickly and efficiently using proper safety protocols such as harnesses. They have a good work ethic and treated our property with care and respect. Samir even brought hot malasadas for us to enjoy one morning. The two workers who dropped off the supplies the first day

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Warranty

“we also help manage manufacturer warranty and RMA processes. Solar Panels We…”

Its website also mentions financing, free estimate, family owned, established, licensed and licence number, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on the Better Business Bureau and Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on LinkedIn, X, Instagram and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

Ordered by how much we can tell you about each, which is not an order of quality. We do not know which of these is better and would not say if we did.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.

Something wrong here? Tell us and a person will read it.
