Its one and two star share is 14 points above the typical installer in San Jose. Across California, 281 of the 1,529 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.
The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 95 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.
Every company we hold in San Jose, on one axis
Each mark is one company we hold in San Jose whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. NRG Clean Power is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

This was the worst experience i have had working with a contractor as a homeowner. There were problems from the start, and yet I stuck with NRG because i wanted to get finished in time for the expiring federal tax credit. Installation team: After the initial work, they left the house having disconnected wiring to lighting for a stairway in my home. Even though this was a safety hazard, they took more than a week to even return to take a look at it. They failed fire inspection FIVE TIMES. They made decisions without consulting me that resulted in cosmetic damage to my home, which they never ade

Absolutely zero redeeming qualities. This is the single worst contractor/company I’ve ever had the displeasure of working with. My story is below and I encourage everyone to not trust a lick of what they promise. If you still decide to go with them then make sure any promises are in your contract. You can also submit complaints on the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) for contractor licensing and workmanship, and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) if its already too late and you're already having problems with them. I started the solar installation process last June and sig

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Pre-PTO and installation was a mess. I had to manage the project myself, following up with NRG after each inspection, installation work, etc. The official project manager never followed up directly. My panels were installed and sitting on my roof for months before I reached out and they turned in on almost instantly when I could have been generating the whole time. Post-PTO, the support specialist that I was assigned is slow to respond. I am having to wait up to 7 days between replies

After posting my previous review, NRG Clean Power contacted me right away and arranged to fix the damage to my roof and gutter caused during the earlier installation. The repairs were completed, and my solar system is now working well. While my overall experience with the project was not enjoyable due to the delays and miscommunication, I appreciate that NRG ultimately stood behind their work and took responsibility for the issues. Their willingness to address the problems shows that they are committed to supporting their customers and maintaining their reputation for the long run.

We worked with David F. and others at NRG to get 23 panels and a battery installed. Despite it being a busy time, they kept us informed, making steady progress, and got our project completed for the agreed upon budget. Ron even reached out and let us know an unexpected rebate opportunity. The price was better than competitors and the communication was solid throughout. We'd definitely recommend them to others.

This company was great to work with! Our advisor, Jack Zimmerman, was attentive and quick to respond. He answered all of our questions and provided detailed input. They were great to work with!

This review is specifically for our installation coordinator, Gabriel. Gabriel communicated clearly and incredibly timely despite the many questions I had for him. He was transparent and concise - letting me know asap when he had an answer, and informing he had reached out to someone else for clarification when that was necessary. He is one of the best representatives I've worked with across the many contractors I've come across since owning a home and truly sets the bar for what the customer experience can be.

What the company says about itself
Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.
Its website also mentions financing and free estimate, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.
Elsewhere
- It is also reviewed on Yelp and the Better Business Bureau. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
- It posts on LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

Ordered by how much we can tell you about each, which is not an order of quality. We do not know which of these is better and would not say if we did.
What we don't know
- The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
- We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
- We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
