Its one and two star share is 15 points above the typical installer in Maine. Across Maine, 6 of the 43 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 6 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in Maine whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Penobscot Solar Design is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

What reviewers said

Very poor service and above all very poor installation. I had to hire another solar company to fix all the mistakes that Penobscot solar made. It cost me an additional $6,000 just to make my system safe. The wiring was under sized and almost caused a fire. The owner of Penobscot solar would not stand behind his installation and would not come back after he was paid. Don't pay him in advance. They don't allow enough time and cut corners. For Daryl to respond that I'm a "nightmare client". Look at the attached photos after your mathematical lecture. This is one of the many wires that were badly

Daryl is competent, honest, and thorough in planning and installation. Unqualified endorsement.

Great company! Amazing prices and customer service.

Great solar company to work with. Prompt site visit, prompt design and quote, great pricing, fast scheduling, and 2 day installation on a large 42 panel array.

Topics Google derives from the review text, with how often each appears. A frequent topic is not a good one: “price” turns up in praise and in complaints alike.

Ordered by how much we can tell you about each, which is not an order of quality. We do not know which of these is better and would not say if we did.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We found nothing on a website for this company that states a warranty, a licence or how long it has traded.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
