Its one and two star share is 5 points above the typical installer in Richmond. Across Virginia, 30 of the 118 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 145 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

On December 21, 2021, a SolarTyme salesperson came to the home of my 74 year old disabled veteran father-in -law and using high pressure tactics had him sign a contract for $58,000 worth of solar panels/generator for a trailer that is not worth 1/2 that much. By the time he told my husband and I about this agreement the "buyer's right to cancel" time limit had passed. We immediately contacted the company and was told that it was too late and the contract was legally binding. We contacted the finance company to see if we could file a complaint and they said they conducted an "investigation" and

Super pushy sales guy. Felt like a used car salesman. He kept saying they have been around for so long but they have very limited reviews. Thanks he was saying just didn’t add up

Things started out great with Solartyme. I hesitated and decided I did not want the panels. Denzel came back and gave us $15,000+ off the original price. Graham and Denzel were great to work with in the beginning but then he stopped taking our phone calls. We were told that the panels would pay for themselves and we wouldn’t pay anymore out of pocket for our loan between the money we put away(monthly savings from having panels) and the amount we would get from srecs. Got our solar panels in March. After all of the inspections were done, we were able to use the app and noticed a couple panels n

When SolarTyme installed my panels i was so excited and couldn’t wait to see the savings. Although we noticed damage that was done to our roof and wall, it was quickly repaired. We were pleased with their professionalism. When the salesman first visited my house he told my husband and i that they would remove the panels for free if we needed them moved or had any issues. Needless to say that was not a true statement, but after talking with them, SolarTyme was willing to work towards a resolution. Even though there were a few bumps, they work hard to remedy situations

Just to let everybody know, SolarTyme shows up on time when they say they’re gonna be there. If you have questions concerns, you’re more than happy to bend over backwards to help you I would recommend them to anybody.

James Scaife of SolarTyme was very helpful in resolving issues with my solar power panels. He also provided advice on the product needed to clean the panels using the hose. KUDOS to all of you that assisted him also.

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Established

“a household name in Eastern Virginia since 1969 and are proud to be accredited by the…”
  • Years in business

“of APPCO's Past Projects With over 50 years of experience, AAPCO has plenty of…”
  • Better Business Bureau

“that, we’re proudly accredited by the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating for our top-quality…”

Its website also mentions financing, warranty and free estimate, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on Instagram and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
