Its one and two star share is 12 points above the typical installer in the Richmond area. Across Virginia, 20 of the 118 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 501 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in the Richmond area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. ION Solar is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

Terrible customer service. Called and emailed this company for a week straight everyday to cancel my solar installation. Received no phone call back from the resolutions department. This company feels like a scam that will try to rope you into paying fees. Unresponsive. Keep promising me that my call is “urgent” and nothing gets resolved. Stay away!

Their salespeople don’t care about no soliciting signs. It’s 2026, nobody wants to buy things from door to door salespeople.

The sales person Chris Pratts (Hampton Roads market) resorted to insulting my wife when she told him that we wanted time to think things over and look at the materials. He kept saying, "you tell me you're a numbers person and I showed you the numbers.... So I guess you're not a numbers person then are you?" His demeanor and personality did a complete 180 the moment we told him we wanted to look over the information before commiting to any decision. I would not do business with this company. High pressure, non transparent pitch. They'll give you the run around when you ask for direct numbers an

Just had the ion and city inspectors come out today and the install job that was done on my house epically “FAILED”. I have enjoyed working with Matt Langer who said he’d look into the issue of the multi-point inspection failure,

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Financing

“utility rates, rate increases, and financing options. Savings estimated here assumes…”

Its website also mentions warranty, free estimate, established, better business bureau and licensed, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on Yelp and ConsumerAffairs. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on X, LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.

Something wrong here? Tell us and a person will read it.
