Its one and two star share is 2 points above the typical installer in the Richmond area. Across Virginia, 38 of the 118 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 34 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in the Richmond area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Shockoe Solar, LLC is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

They installed our system about 4yrs ago. Install wasn't bad but we didn't get the main team from shockoe, we got a sub contactor. Had our positive and negatives throughout the install. Ryan came out and fixed somethings and also Bernie ended up throwing in some extra panels to complete the look of my system at no extra cost. Which was great. At the end this would of received a 4 star. Fast forward a year. Had a inverter go bad. Now you would think they would be monitoring your system like that said they would and catch my system offline. Took me over a week to realize it. They dragged their f

In late March 2022 I contracted Shockoe Solar for a 22-panel residential unit. The original salesperson had tremendous knowledge in the field, fully understood our goals, made a recommendation based on our needs, and had all the planning documents, calculations and contracts done within a week. It was explained that Shockoe focuses on business/commercial work, but will do residential jobs whenever the team was available, but everything was done in-house and we would have a local resource should we ever need it. The GOOD: the solar panels used on our job are very good. We opted to use Enphase m

Bernie and his team installed 3kw worth of solar panels, added batteries and the necessary electronics to net-meter with the grid. The system has been working great for 13 years. We had to change the batteries after 10 years, which was expected, and Bernie provided excellent support during the exchange process.

We had a whole house panel/inverter system installed by Bernie and his crew over 10 years ago and have been super appreciative ever since! We live in a rural area where electricity can be out for multiple weeks at a time when big storms come thru and we never know we are off the grid until we hear people cranking their generators in the distance. We also appreciate the solar energy system every month when we have a cheap power bill when others are grossly complaining! We would be happy to be entirely off the grid with our system if we were allowed by building code. We are happy to be using the

Shockoe Solar was THE ONLY solar system installer who listened to me and provided EXACTLY what I wanted: a field array 150' away from my shop, all hardware (inverter, batteries) in my shop, fully integrated with our existing backup generator, and minimal equipment on the side of my house. You don't know we have solar unless you are out behind the shop. One simple disconnect next to the meter on the house. I dealt with two installers prior and one even started, submitted plans, and went out of business. Fortunately, that design never materialized, because it would have been exceptionally inferi

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Warranty

“own residential 10-year craftsmanship warranty in addition to the excellent…”

  • Established

“company serving Central Virginia since 2007. No door-knockers. No national call…”

  • Years in business

“of the team, she comes to us with over 13 years of senior administrative, AP/AR and…”

  • Licensed

“and businesses in Central Virginia. Licensed, insured, 17 years experience. Home…”

Its website also mentions insured, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on the Better Business Bureau. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on Facebook and LinkedIn. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
