Its one and two star share is 1 point above the typical installer in Raleigh. Across North Carolina, 69 of the 130 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 274 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Contacted them to start the process of getting solar panels early august and the rep never got back to me. After a while contacted the company again to see what was going on and I received a text from the old rep saying they were already done with projects until 2026. Very unprofessional.

I wish I could give a zero rating. I'm a professional engineer licensed in multiple states and Southern Energy Management is one of the most unprofessional groups I've dealt with. I would strongly recommend you do not do business with this company.

Communications and design with both 4-5 stars hands down. Austin, quoter, is a class act and takes he time to answer any and all questions. As a new builder in the area, I got bids from Yes Solar, 8M, and SEM. Once we determined the placement and size, I made sure all 3 quotes directly quoted all the same materials and specs (27kW ballasted ground system, 3 Tesla Powerwalls 3 backing a critical panel, site preparation to include gravel base and weed sceen prevention, and a small fence around the perimeter of the field). 8M was the only company to come onsite and do measurements numerous times

Capable and committed team. They did a great job on a ground-mount solar project for us.

The people at SEM were great to deal with from start to finish on my home solar+battery project! The installation crew headed by Josh and electrical crew headed by Jason were notable - unlike many work crews, these guys all get along - they were fun to have around, and both crews finished their parts ahead of schedule. The B Corporation certification of this company actually shows in the attitude and energy of the employees - how refreshing! I highly recommend SEM.

Very good at explaining the process from development of a proposal to showing how the monitoring app works once the installation is complete. With all of the paperwork (engineering designs, communications with utility, permits, etc.) they did a good job of keeping me updated on the process and completing 95% of all the paperwork. The utility agreements are confusing and unfortunately are a moving target as the rules change from year to year. Installation crews were good at communicating their needs and were respectful to our requests so that we could limit problems for our neighbors. They were

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Years in business

“in North Carolina since 2001. With over 20 years of experience in the industry,…”

Its website also mentions warranty, free estimate and established, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on the Better Business Bureau and Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
