Its one and two star share is 15 points above the typical installer in the Beltsville area. Across Maryland, 6 of the 111 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 12 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in the Beltsville area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Direct Energy Solar is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

I leased solar from Astrum solar in June 2012. They were taken over by Direct Energy/Omnidian. Apparently they are back to owning my panels and yet no where to be found. I cannot get in touch with anyone from Astrum. They use a rude company Omnidian who is horrible. In March of 2025 my system stopped communication and I was told to flip the breaker back on. I voiced concern over this because it never happened. It happened way too many times after and this is all they would say flip it back on. I said that when the breaker trips it explodes and sounds dangerous they failed to respond. Then in E

This company has sure showed their growing pains. We went to a home show in Buffalo and were wowed by the consultants knowledge and readiness to help! Signed the contract and we were ready to get the project started. Well, from the start, things moved quickly! Measurements and all were done within the first 5 weeks of signing the contract.. then came the problems. No communications - I sent emails the the regional operations manager about my project and he could not give me any time line projects. Approx 80 days into the contract (Contract stated project would be done in approx 120 days) I get

Recently had an experience with Colin Gload. He was passionate and informative. He also worked extremely hard to get me the best offer DES could give. His conviction lets you know he's passionate about what he does and about getting his customers the best deal. In the future he will definitely be getting referrals from me.

I installed my system with Direct Energy Solar several weeks ago after reviewing nearly every company in Maryland (no joke). The project took a little longer than I hoped due to Baltimore City permitting, but the project manager kept me informed every step of the way. I could not be more pleased with the installation crew. They were courteous and polite while getting my system installed in less than a day. We just received final approval from BGE and I'm looking forward to seeing those electric bills go way down. Overall, the process was not perfect, but I was kept informed from the sales proc

Topics Google derives from the review text, with how often each appears. A frequent topic is not a good one: “price” turns up in praise and in complaints alike.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on Yelp and the Better Business Bureau. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We found nothing on a website for this company that states a warranty, a licence or how long it has traded.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
