Its one and two star share is 3 points below the typical installer in the Grand Rapids area. Across Michigan, 49 of the 84 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 10 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in the Grand Rapids area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Great Lakes RV Solar Solutions is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

I would 100% recommend Ian for any solar needs. He went over the energy capabilities of our sprinter van with a fine-toothed comb, researching components, contacting companies, and testing each panel along the way. He spent a lot of time explaining where he was in the process and how the system works once we picked up the van. Communication was excellent, he never tried to oversell anything, and I feel much better about using our van now than I did prior to Ian looking it over and updating it. And his costs are reasonable. Really glad we found him.

Just went in and talked to Ian. What a great dude! He was willing to chat with me about what I wanted to do even though it was a little past close. He was super helpful showing me some of the items I was interested in. If you have mobile solar needs, this is the place to go. He even told me he could usually beat online prices. Thanks Ian!

I own a 2023 artic fox 990, which is carried by a 2021 Ford f350 dually. I had a local RV shop update my batteries to lithium. Unfortunately they were not knowledgeable enough to recommend updating charging system to be compatible with lithium batteries. After finding Great Lakes RV solutions in Elk Rapids Michigan, the owner Ian, was instrumental in educating and advising recommending components which would best meet my needs. He kept me appraised of the status throughout the build process. I highly recommend Ian's solar services if you are looking to update RV solar.

Topics Google derives from the review text, with how often each appears. A frequent topic is not a good one: “price” turns up in praise and in complaints alike.

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

Its website also mentions free estimate, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

    Elsewhere

    • It is also reviewed on the Better Business Bureau. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
    • It posts on Instagram, X and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

Ordered by how much we can tell you about each, which is not an order of quality. We do not know which of these is better and would not say if we did.

    What we don't know

    • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
    • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
    • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
