One morning in mid-March, my home water flow alarm went off, indicating a small leak lasting a long duration. I called our plumber who verified there was a leak and checked everything. It turned out to be a stuck valve in the landscape watering system which was easily fixed by my landscaper. However, in the process of checking all possible piping leaks the plumber went on the roof and noticed small leaks in the piping joints of our solar pool water heater. It was over 6 years old, and I never had it serviced as it worked fine. I called Phelps solar to explain the situation and a few days later

Phelps Solar Specialists installed the solar heater and changed our pool filter and other work (Pentair system). Things seem to work fine. But less than a year later, the air relief valve/device broke and water was shooting out everywhere. It was an emergency and my wife was home alone so she called our pool who came and bout a new device and fixed it right away. We contacted Phelps for refund but they said Pentair refused to refund us since we did not contact them (remember this was an emergency we are talking about). Then a few weeks later the pool light that Phelps installed in our pool fel

We’ve had 4 service calls in less than a year. We’ve spent over $1100 on those repairs. The system was replaced in 2019. Next call will be to remove the system. 3 weeks of use during that time.

$200 for a service call that lasted 10 mins and no parts is very steep.

I’ve used Phelps Solar over about 10 years. I have found them to be extremely knowledgeable and honest. I retired from the pool industry so I have worked with a lot of repairmen. It’s good to have people who know what they are doing!

Phelps has been servicing my solar pool for as long as I have had it, over 15 years. Always prompt service and very reasonable price. They come and do the job no complaints.

Perfect - ON TIME & VERY Knowledgeable. Highly recommend, Terry & Peggy Craig Wickenburg, AZ.

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Warranty

“Specialist is the distributor and warranty service center for both Solar…”
  • Established

“saving solar pool heating systems. Since 1979 Mark has learned which systems will…”
  • Licensed

“Solar is San Diego’s oldest licensed solar heating contractor,…”

Its website also mentions free estimate, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.

Something wrong here? Tell us and a person will read it.
