Its one and two star share is 7 points above the typical installer in the Albany area. Across New York, 60 of the 247 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 118 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in the Albany area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. SunCommon is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

My experience with SunCommon was unfortunately marked by delays at nearly every stage. SunCommon accepted my deposit to replace a failed inverter on my existing solar array and scheduled a date to perform the work. No technician arrived on the scheduled date. I was subsequently told that they could not provide a new service date and was advised to contact another company to complete the repair. I therefore cancelled the work and requested the return of my deposit. The refund process involved further delays and repeated follow-up, although I have now received the refund in full. My system was o

These guys installed our commercial solar system and now refuse to service it after experiencing issues with our inverter. Would not recommend.

No customer service. After several callas and emails, still waiting 7 months for a software upgrade. Will be contacting the BBB to resolve.

After working with SunCommon, my solar system works, and the installation crews and electricians were great (although not consistent in the info they provided us). I would not work with this company again because their project management was extremely frustrating, confusing, unorganized, and borderline incompetent. If SunCommon can figure out how to inform customers and manage execution with minimal competence, it will be a five-star company. While I’m happy to have solar now, I still have lingering headaches from the terrible communication and execution and scores of hours I had to devote to

Everything and everyone was just perfect! From the initial assessment to the design phase, to project management, installation and activation - just perfect! I love my panels and my energy independence! Thank you! Special thanks to Drew and Vicki for 'holding my hand' through this new to me process! :)

We had a great experience working with SunCommon. Everyone on the team was extremely helpful throughout the process and were quick to respond to our emails. They were open to feedback and worked with us to meet our specific project needs. Our sales person, Kris Hyrcun especially went above and beyond and continually made herself available when we questions came up. I would highly recommend working with SunCommon and we hope to work with them again in the future.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

The ones without a link have no page here, either because Google does not categorise them as solar businesses or because we could not match the name to a listing with confidence.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
