Its one and two star share is 12 points above the typical installer in Chicago. Across Illinois, 40 of the 183 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 32 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in Chicago whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Source Solar is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

Source Solar is by far the worst company I have dealt with in the solar industry. Their customer support is extremely disappointing. They have no effective escalation process, and there is virtually no support available on weekends. If your system goes down on a Saturday or Sunday, you're left without any meaningful assistance because no one responds, and there is no alternate way to reach someone who can actually help. What makes this even worse is that when their solar equipment fails, it can leave you without power even if ComEd is actively supplying electricity. Instead of receiving prompt

The job was to be done 5 month later than I was told it would be completed. They ran the conduit through the storage area in my attic and still across my roof though I was told otherwise. They also drilled an extra hole in my siding. I keep trying to get them to correct this issue. The won’t respond.

Reliable service and a high quality solar system. I am already seeing the benefits of going solar with source solar.

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

Its website also mentions financing, free estimate and years in business, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

    Elsewhere

    • It is also reviewed on Angi and the Better Business Bureau. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
    • It posts on LinkedIn and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

    What we don't know

    • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
    • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
    • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
