Its one and two star share is 2 points below the typical installer in the Salinas area. Across California, 750 of the 1,529 installers whose breakdown Google has published carry a higher share than this one.

The percentages are Google’s own arithmetic over every review it holds, not a sample we assembled. Separately we hold 73 review texts for this company, quoted below. Google publishes review ages rather than dates, so every date here is approximate.

Each mark is one company we hold in the Salinas area whose Google breakdown has been read, placed by its share of one and two star reviews. Allterra Solar is the red one. The amber line is the middle of that set, which includes suppliers and maintenance businesses as well as installers.

What reviewers said

Contacted company for a quote on a smaller project and was informed there was a $200 + fee for a site visit and that they were not interested unless it was an 8 panel or greater system. This was very disappointing customer service and I will not consider working with Allterra Solar for future projects.

Excellent communication from the initial inquiry, to the installation, Greg, Micah, Aubrey and staff were responsive to my questions and Miguel’s installation went smoothly and quickly. I was referred to Allterra Solar for my roof installation, so shortly following the purchase of my electric vehicle, Allterra was the obvious choice. Thank you, Michele P.

The technician was on time, friendly, and addressed the issue we had.

Alterra Solar installed my system 10 years ago and it’s been working great. Recently I was having trouble with the micro inverters not reporting consistently. Alterra was quick to respond and worked with me over the phone to track down the problem. They tracked it for a week and contacted me again and we’ve since got it working well with a better power source. Didn’t cost me a thing! I highly recommend Alterra Solar!

Topics Google derives from the review text, with how often each appears. A frequent topic is not a good one: “price” turns up in praise and in complaints alike.

What the company says about itself

Taken from its own website. We have not checked any of it, and a sentence on a website is not evidence.

  • Financing

“rebates. Our flexible solar financing options make a home renewable energy system…”

  • Warranty

“we install include a workmanship warranty and one-year free service. Learn What…”

Its website also mentions free estimate, established and licence number, but not in a sentence we can quote cleanly.

Elsewhere

  • It is also reviewed on ConsumerAffairs and Yelp. Worth reading before you sign anything: those are a different crowd, and the complaints that reach the Better Business Bureau rarely reach Google.
  • It posts on YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook. A page that stopped posting years ago tells you something a listing will not.

Who Google shows alongside them

Google’s own “people also viewed” set, in Google’s order. It is Google’s comparison, not ours.

Ordered by how much we can tell you about each, which is not an order of quality. We do not know which of these is better and would not say if we did.

What we don't know

  • The date above is the newest review we hold, which is not necessarily the newest that exists — we hold a large share of Google's reviews, not all of them.
  • We do not verify licences, insurance or bonding. Nothing here has been checked against a state licensing board.
  • We cannot tell you what an installation costs, and we hold nothing about the equipment they fit.
